Winter Activities in Summit County

    There’s so much more to do than just ski and snowboard in Summit County! From family fun parks to back-country adventures, we’ve got plenty of ways to enjoy Colorado’s sunshine and snow.
    Here are a few ideas...

    Sledding

    For a few bucks, you can pick up a sled at one of our local stores. Then, all you need is a snowy hill! Carter Park in Breckenridge is free with easy access. For the more adventurous types, a short drive up to Hoosier Pass will definitely provide lots of thrills!

    Cross-Country Skiing

    Cross-country skiing is a great workout and a great way to enjoy the outdoors. Nordic Centers can be found in Breckenridge, Frisco, Silverthorne, Keystone and Copper Mountain. Most require a trail use fee, but the Silverthorne Nordic Center is free.

    Snow Biking

    Snowbiking has been around for years, but recently it’s gaining more momentum in the ski industry. Take a seat and grab on to the handlebars as you experience a fun new sport. Keystone Resort offers introductory snow biking lessons.

    Snowmobiling

    There’s nothing quite like the adrenaline-fueled experience of riding on a 150-horsepower open sleigh! High Country Tours in Dillon has guided and unguided snowmobiling trips for all ability levels.

    Sleigh Rides

    Cozy up with your love ones for an old fashioned journey through the beautiful vistas of Summit County. Scenic and dinner sleigh rides are offered in Breckenridge, Copper and Keystone.

    Tubing

    Tubing is an absolute blast for kids and adults alike! Check out the latest rage at Keystone’s Adventure Point, the East Village at Copper and the Frisco Adventure Park.

    Snowshoeing

    Snowshoeing is a great way to explore Summit County’s winter wonderland. Many of Summit’s summer hiking trails make great snowshoe trails in winter.

    Ice Fishing

    Ice fishing is considered the sportsman’s version of yoga – offering peace, quiet and tranquility. For your ice fishing and fly fishing needs, stop by Mountain Anglers in Breckenridge.

    Snowcat Tours

    Keystone offers Mountain-Top Snowcat Tours for those who prefer a scenic ride. For those wanting to get out and ride that scenery, check out Keystone Adventure Tours and Ski Cooper’s Chicago Ridge SnowCat Tours.

    Live Music

    You’ll hear live music in and around Summit County all year round. Local venues, resorts, restaurants and bars offer a wide variety of sounds from local to national acts.

    Bowling

    Bowling offers a warm alternative for winter fun. Bowling alleys are located in Dillon and Leadville.

    Ice Skating

    Ice skating options are many in Summit County. Skating is free at Silverthorne’s own ice skating pond, located at the corner of Hwy 9 and Hamilton Creek Road, but you’ll need your own equipment. It is maintained December through February. Other ice skating rinks that offer rentals are located in Breckenridge, Keystone and Copper.

    Massage or Spa

    If you’ve been on the hill all day and taken a beating, or if you just prefer to pamper yourself while others are on the hill, different spa and massage services are offered throughout the county. See the Spa section here for all of your pampering and therapeutic needs.

    Theater

    With two highly recognized theaters in the county, you’ll find a great selection of performances to choose from. Breckenridge’s Backstage Theatre is an award-winning theater showcasing plays that run the gamut from comedy to tragedy. The Lake Dillon Theatre Company is considered one of the top community live theater companies in the state, featuring comedies, dramas, musicals and a diverse program of concerts.

    Festivals and Parades

    Summit County can always find any excuse to throw a party. Copper Sunsation, Ullr Fest, Mardi Gras, Spring Massive and other festivals will lead you to the main streets and villages of our community celebrating everything from the Christmas spirit to the Norse god of snow.
