Zoos in Colorado

Lions and tigers and bears – oh my! While you’re in our fair state, consider visiting one of our terrific zoos. Denver Zoo is a great choice, with 4,000 animals from 700 species housed on 80 acres. It’s a fantastic educational experience for all ages, with up-close encounters, new arrivals, special habitats and the popular night lights during the Christmas season.

The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs is located on a hilly, beautiful 146-acre site, and the facility’s 800 animals of every variety are sure to keep the entire family or group entertained as you go from one exhibit to the next. Especially wonderful is the Mountaineer Sky Ride, which gives you a bird’s eye view of the zoo from a chairlift.

Exhibits include the Australia Walkabout, All About Giraffes, Encounter Africa, Rocky Mountain Wild and more.

To the south is the Pueblo Zoo, home to some 420 animals of 120 species. It’s a smaller facility on 30 acres, with a mini train and carousel – perhaps the perfect outing for your small children?
